How to list only directories in linux console

Posted by sureshm on December 2, 2007

Well, we know how to list files and directories in console. Yes ‘ls’ is enough.

The ‘ls’ will display all files and directories. To list only directories use :

[ myEmpire$]: ls -d */

🙂 This will do the trick. 😉

To list only directories, use any one of the following commands.

# ls -d */
# ls -l | grep ‘^d’
# ls -p |grep “/”

# find . -type d (Show full hierarchy)
# find . -type d -maxdepth 1 -mindepth 1

# echo */
# echo */ */ (dig deeper)

# tree -d (Show full hierarchy)
# tree -d -L 1
# tree -fid

How to install the GNU C++ compiler on Linux

Posted by sureshm on October 27, 2007

Now a days there are lot of easy tools/commands for the installation in Linux. The most commonly used are yum, apt-get, urpmi etc.

The below will help you to install GNU C++ complier using the source file. Please make sure that you have root (wheel user) privilege in the machine in order to have write access to the referenced directories.

01. Create a directory named gcc under /usr
mkdir /usr/gcc

02. Download the following files by running the command as follows.
wget http://cudlug.cudenver.edu/GNU/gnu/gcc/gcc-3.4.3/gcc-3.4.3.tar.bz2
wget http://cudlug.cudenver.edu/GNU/gnu/gcc/gcc-3.4.3/gcc-core-3.4.3.tar.bz2

03. Uncompress the two files.
tar xjvf gcc-g++-3.4.3.tar.bz2 ; tar xjvf gcc-core-3.4.3.tar.bz2

04. Then do the following commands.
rm -rf /usr/gcc/obj/* ; mkdir /usr/gcc/obj ; cd /usr/gcc/obj

05. Run the configure with the options C and C++
../gcc-3.4.3/configure -enable-languages=c,c++

Configure SpamAssassin in Ensim

Posted by sureshm on October 27, 2007

First, you must sign into your user control panel:

<http://mydomain.com/user> (please substitute your actual domain name here)

You will be prompted to enter your username and password on this login page. Your username is the first part of your email address. So if your email address was “suresh@mydomain.com”, your username would be “suresh”.

Once signed in, click the “Spam Filtering” link, which is located on the left hand navigation menu. This will bring up the spam filter management area.

As you can see, there are four levels of sensitivity to choose from: Low, Medium, High and Custom. The lower the number, the more sensitive the filters will be, meaning that most of the spam will be detected, and it is possible that some legitimate messages will also be flagged as spam. The higher the number, the less sensitive it will be, allowing more messages to get through.

There are also several options for how you want spam handled for your account:

1. Deliver spam email to my inbox – All messages flagged as spam will come to your inbox where you can delete them manually.

2. Move spam email to my blocked folder – This option will automatically create a “Spam” folder, and all spam messages will be sent there. You can manually delete the contents of that folder at any time.

3. Delete spam email – All messages flagged as spam will be deleted immediately.

4. Add text to beginning of the subject – If you have chosen option 1 or 2, then enabling this will add your desired text to the beginning of the message subject to help you easily identify the message as spam.

5. Deliver spam as an attachment – If you have chosen option 1 or 2, then enabling this will send the spam as message attachments rather than a regular email.

Allowed Senders List: At the top of this page, there is a link for Allowed Senders List. That list is also known as a “whitelist”, and is available in case you ever see a message from a legitimate sender get picked up by the spam filters. You can simply add the sender’s address here, and future messages sent by them will not be considered spam.

Blocked Senders List: Similarly, if you ever receive a message that appears to be spam, but the message was not detected by the spam filters, you can add the sender’s address here so that future messages from that sender will be blocked automatically.

Removing a site manually in Ensim Servers

Posted by sureshm on October 26, 2007

Ensim control panel usually subjected to errors while editing from the control panel. The most common error is the one which will occur while deleting a site from the control panel.

The following describes how to delete the domain from the back end in linux servers.

01. Login as the ‘root’ of the server.

02. Unmount the perl directories ( if mounted ) by

umount /home/virtual/domain.com/usr/lib/perlX
umount /home/virtual/<sitehandle>/fst/usr/lib/perlX

where X is version number

For make sure that you have unmounted the mounted perl directories.

You can find the site handler of the domain by doing a sitelookup

sitelookup -d domain.com03. Then do the following

rm -rf /home/virtual/siteX
rm -f /home/virtual/adminX
rm -f /home/virtual/domain.com
rm -f /etc/httpd/conf/virtual/siteX
rm -rf /etc/httpd/conf/siteX
rm -f /etc/webalizer/domain.com
userdel adminX

Also please remember to remove any other customizations you have added.

04. Clear out entries of the PostGreSQL database

psql appldb
Welcome to psql, the PostgreSQL interactive terminal.
Type: copyright for distribution terms h for help with SQL commands
? for help on internal slash commands g or terminate with semicolon to execute
query
q to quit
: appldb=> delete from users where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from reseller where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from bandwidth where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from bandwidth_log where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from bandwidth_services where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from bandwidth_spans where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from diskquota where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from ipinfo where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from free_uids where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from ipinfo_ipaddrs where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from ipinfo_nbaddrs where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from apache where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from ssh where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from telnet where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from reseller_bandwidth where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from reseller_diskquota where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from reseller_info where site_id = X
: appldb=> delete from reseller_ipinfo where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from reseller_users where site_id = X;
: appldb=> delete from siteinfo where site_id = X;
: appldb=>\q

While deleting the database ipinfo failed due to any foreign key constraints of other databases of the site , remove that databases too.
05. View all the files under /etc/virtualhosting/mappings and check if any of them refer to the site that you are deleting. You can delete all lines referring to either siteX or domain.com for each files.
06. Now you can safely restart apache and webappliance.

service httpd restart OR /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart
service webppliance restart OR /etc/rc.d/init.d/webppliance restart ( For Ensim XPro, the service name is epld )
